Barbi gave me this recipe. She says she doesn't like how greasy chorizo can be, I don't either. This homemade version is much tastier.
Ingredients:
1 lb. lean hamburger
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 Tbsp. oregano
3 oz. red chile powder (Note: 1 oz. is just shy of 1/3 cup)
1 lb. Jimmy Dean pork sausage
1 tsp. cumin
1/3 cup white vinegar
Let the two meats come to room temperature (it'll be easier to mix). Add all the ingredients together except for the vinegar. Wearing gloves, mix it all together. Once the ingredients are well mixed, add the vinegar a little at a time until it is all incorporated. Roll into balls and refrigerate or freeze until ready to use.
